1600 pandas in Hong Kong


The 1600 Pandas tour arrived in Hong Kong in June this year. The 1600 paper mache pandas were created by French artist Paulo Grangeo in support of the WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature). 1600 signifies the estimated number of pandas left in the wild. While they were in Hong Kong, the pandas flash mobbed various landmarks, such as the Clock Tower at Tsim Sha Tsui and the Big Buddha on Lantau Island.

While I missed the original pandas, I visited a complementary exhibition of "Made-in-Hong Kong" pandas at Exchange Square. These were created by locals, including some under-privileged children, in several paper mache panda workshop sessions.
