Peng Chau 坪洲, Hong Kong

The small and tranquil island of Peng Chau is often overlooked by foreign visitors and locals alike as a location of choice to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. In fact I myself only visited it for the first time ever fairly recently. In a way Peng Chau looks a bit like a smaller version of the better known and more popular Cheung Chau. The two islands are on the west of Hong Kong Island, and both are a quick 40-minutes or so ferry ride from the Central piers. The smaller and less populated Peng Chau may lack the rich traditions of Cheung Chau, but with fewer visitors, it has an even more laid-back atmosphere. There are a couple of easy walking trails on the island, making it a good option for a relaxing half-day outing.
